Kathryn Grace Marma (Kathy), aged 67, of St. Petersburg, FL, died peacefully on January 15, 2026, following complications related to ovarian cancer.
Kathy was born July 16, 1958 in Nuremberg, Germany. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Tony Marma, and is survived by her sisters, Kris (and husband Bob) Scherrer and Kim Custer, her brother Steve Marma (and wife Marta), many nieces, nephews and grand-nephews/nieces, and close friend Rick Crator.
Kathy received her undergraduate degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Science, Gerontology, Management Concentration from Baylor University. She worked for AARP for 30 years, and in her most recent position as an Associate State Director for Communications at AARP Florida, she successfully led state-wide media coverage for issues impacting older Floridians.
She was a loving and engaged daughter, sister, aunt, friend, colleague, caregiver, neighbor, pickleball partner, avid walker, faithful gym class participant at BayCare HealthHub, patron of Mazzaro’s Italian Market and Athenian Gardens, and women’s church group and cancer-support group member who always jumped in to help when people called. Her tenacity and positive, can-do spirit were legendary, especially during her courageous fight against cancer. Kathy is forever an inspiration and always in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (12 Street N, St. Petersburg) on Saturday, February 14 at 9:30 am with a gathering to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 48787, St. Petersburg, FL 33743-8787 (https://www.ovariancancerfoundation.org/donate/)
Born below a German sky,
with grace Kathy carried all her days.
A sister’s laugh, an aunt’s warm hand,
a steady light in countless ways.
She walked with purpose, spoke with care,
gave voice to those too often unheard,
and answered every call for help
before the question formed a word.
Through illness, still her spirit rose—
brave, generous, true
and a little bossy too.
Love remains where Kathy stood,
and walks this world because of you.
