William “Big Bird” Steven MacWithey
5/23/1960 to 11/25/2025.
Bill spent the majority of his life in construction. His primary career was in the roofing industry. Bill was the one that was called when the best couldn’t figure out a roof leak. He was an expert at fixing a leak the right way, not just slapping some caulk on it and hoping for the best. He roofed and supervised jobs all over the state of Colorado. Some of his favorite jobs were in The Washington Park area. His long career included all aspects of construction. Even when he was unsure of how to do something, he forged ahead and completed the job to perfection, leaving behind some beautiful work.
Bill loved fishing of all kinds. One of his favorite places was Isla Mujeres. Due to his gift of gab and acceptance and love of people’s differences, he forged friendships there he considered family. He loved the water and deep water fishing. Bill never met a stranger.
Music and photography was another passion of Bills. He would go to clubs all over Denver and take photos of the bands playing. He made friends through that pursuit and left a trail of fantastic pictures.
Bill had a good heart. During the Colorado blizzard of 1997, he went out in the weather to help motorists in need. Bill also helped people in the lowest point in their lives. He would welcome them in his home, give them jobs and tried to help them pick up the pieces.
Bill’s biggest passion was his children. He always desired to spend time with them and did whenever he could. He traveled with them fished with them, showed them how to work with their hands, gardened with them. Bill enjoyed being a grandfather and spent a lot of time with Zachary and his mother, Nicole. Bill taught Zachary to work on Grandpa’s truck, took him and Nicole fishing, gardened with them and spent as much time with them as he could.
William is survived by his daughter Charlotte, sons, William and Cory, numerous grandchildren including Zachary, Madeline and Silas, sister, Deborah Wright and brother, Scott. William was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Klaviter.
