On January 23, 2026, the world lost a radiant soul, Geraldine "Geri" Cecilia Montoya, who departed this life at the age of 71 in Meridian, Idaho. Born on November 26, 1954, in Ogden, Utah, Geri was a beacon of love and laughter, cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Geri was a devoted mother to her beloved daughter, Christina Peterson and her daughter in law Angela Peterson, as well as her sons David and Brian. She was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren, Jaxon and Jada and a loving sister to Flamino (Flam) and Gilbert, Santos and Diane.  Geri's family extended beyond her immediate relatives, encompassing a multitude of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her step-siblings Kathy Bishop Joynt, Ronnie Bishop, and Sheryl Pulver. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tranquilino and Josephine Montoya, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents; her spirit continues to live on in the hearts of her family.

Celebrated for her vibrant personality, Geri was known to be loving, outgoing, and witty. Her engaging nature made her a friend to many, and her honesty, curiosity, and generosity endeared her to everyone she met. Geri possessed an adventurous spirit that was evident in her love for fishing, camping, and traveling. She found joy in the simplicity of life, whether it was crafting, solving puzzles on her tablet, enjoying a good movie, singing, or preparing delicious meals for those she loved. Geri’s enthusiasm was particularly palpable during the holiday season, where her Christmas decorations sparkled brightly, reflecting her joyous spirit.

Her remarkable traits — ambition, energy, kindness, and loyalty — defined Geri not just as a person but as a guiding light in her family’s lives. She had an innate ability to brighten any room and leave a lasting impression with her humor and compassion.

Geri’s legacy will be forever cherished, marked by the profound love she shared and the many lives she touched. In her memory, let us carry forward the kindness, curiosity, and joy that she exemplified every day. As she now shines among the stars, we take comfort in the words: “A piece of my heart is now a star in the sky.”

Though her presence will be deeply missed, Geri's love and spirit will remain alive in the countless memories held dear by her family and friends. A private ceremony for Geri's closest loved ones will honor her as they share stories and celebrate a life so beautifully lived.

In these sorrowful times, let us express our heartfelt condolences to her family, standing together to embrace the love Geri shared with us all.

A Special thank you to the St Luke’s cancer Institute, Dr H. Paige, RN, you two are one of a kind and we were so fortunate to have you caring for my mother and giving us more time with her. Also, the many infusion nurses especially Steve (She absolutely adored you) and the many staff on the St Luke’s Meridian 4th floor and ICU for your non-stop compassion, care and love you showed our family, especially my mother during her last days.
