Obituary for Susan Arlene Jenkins
May 21, 1949 – January 24, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Arlene Jenkins, who departed this world on January 24, 2026, at the age of 76.
Susan was born on May 21, 1949, in Rome, New York, to Clement M. Smith and Irene K. Mitchell-Smith. She lived a full and joyful life, marked by love, resilience, and a generous spirit. A proud retired Marine veteran, Susan spent many years in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, before making her home in Summerville, South Carolina.
Susan was a devoted mother, nana, and great-nana, and a cherished friend to many. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Russell D. Jenkins.
She is survived by her #1 son, Andrew D. Jenkins, and her daughter, Jennifer L. Jenkins Hockenberry. She was blessed with four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren:
- Sonya J. Maguire (FL) and her children, Angel M. Carson and David J. Combs
- Anthony D. Jenkins (PA) and his wife, Marisa C. Jenkins, and their children, Colson D. Jenkins and Myla C. Jenkins
- Amanda L. Jenkins (PA)
- Brenden A. Amanto (PA) and his fiancé,e Stacie M. Halinan, and their daughter, Allora L. Amanto
Susan found joy in life’s simple pleasures—gardening, watching birds, and enjoying a good glass of wine. She treasured time spent with loved ones and embraced every moment with warmth and humor.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and unwavering strength. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who have had the privilege of knowing her. Though she is no longer with us, the impact of her life remains deeply felt.
Honoring her wishes, no services or memorial will be held. Her ashes will be scattered in St. Anthony’s Wilderness. Donations can be made to the MUSC Foundation – Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
May Susan rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
