Sylbert Cheekan was a devoted father, proud grandfather, and a man who lived with generosity, humor, and an adventurous spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his fourteen children, sixteen grandchildren, and his beloved sister-in-law, all of whom were deeply cherished by him.

Family was at the center of Sylbert’s life. He loved cooking and hosting gatherings, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and connection. He especially enjoyed crafting his own pepper sauces, a labor of love that reflected both his creativity and his desire to share something special with those he loved. Those moments around the table—sharing meals, stories, jokes, and his signature sauces—will be among the most treasured memories for his family.

Professionally, Sylbert worked in territory sales for an international food distributor, where he was known for his strong work ethic, sharp mind, and ability to build genuine relationships. Later in life, he continued serving others as a tractor-trailer driver for a nonprofit organization. Beyond his career, Sylbert opened his home and heart as a foster father, offering care, stability, and compassion to children in need—a reflection of the kindness that defined his life.

Sylbert was exceptionally skilled in mathematics and could often solve problems mentally with ease, a talent that spoke to his intelligence and confidence. He was a lifelong horse enthusiast and the proud owner of the thoroughbred racehorse Flying Dutchman, a passion that brought him great joy and fulfillment.

An adventurer at heart, Sylbert loved to travel and embrace new experiences. He enjoyed race car rallying, playing cards, and the open road. Just as memorable was his playful sense of humor—he was well known for his love of slightly naughty jokes and his collection of jokester T-shirts that never failed to spark laughter.

Above all, Sylbert was a loving father whose presence, guidance, and affection shaped countless lives—both within his family and beyond it. He will be remembered for his generosity, intelligence, laughter, and the many lives he touched.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
