James “Jim” Fredric Honhart

It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Honhart- a cherished patriarch, devoted husband, loving father, and adored grandfather, who passed away on December 26, 2025, at age 86.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Honhart; their children, Jon, Jason (Debbie), and Jeff (Cheri); his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Brook Smith; his beloved grandchildren -Ian, Lindsey, Sarah, Ashley, Arielle, Gavin, Owen, Dalton, Dawson, Monty, and Gabby -and his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie, who all will forever carry his memory forward.

Jim was born in Pontiac, Michigan on August 29, 1939, to Louis and Florence Honhart. Jim grew into a man defined by kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength. At Michigan State University, he built many friendships that lasted a lifetime as a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He went on to serve his country with honor as a United States Air Force AFSC language specialist who was stationed in Italy and entrusted to decipher Albanian codes. After his military career, Jim dedicated many years and built a successful career working for IBM as a systems engineer. Jim was an active member of the Del Webb Spruce Creek Golf and Country Club for 23 years not only as an avid golfer but also as a respected board member. He was also a dedicated and indispensable member of the Elks Club for 57 years.

Known for his joyful spirit and infectious laughter, Jim had a way of drawing people in with his warmth, humor, and immense wisdom. He was the heart of our family, the pillar of our strength, and a constant source of encouragement to everyone around him. As a young man, he caddied at a local golf course and was a member of his high school golf team, sparking a lifelong passion for the game. He saved every dollar he made to buy as many 45s as possible, nurturing a love of music that became one of his greatest joys. He went on to spend over 48 years as a member of various barbershop choruses. Sharing music with his children and grandchildren created memories that will last a lifetime.

Whether he was golfing with friends, singing in his barbershop chorus, or simply sharing a joke at the kitchen table, his presence always brought joy to the room. He taught us the value of hard work, kindness, and family, leaving an indelible mark on our lives.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, February 16th at Hiers Baxley Funeral Home from 1:00-3:00 in Bellview, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Jim’s name.

Though he is gone, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the joy that he brought will live on forever in our hearts.
