Rebecca “Becky” Lynne Shettleroe (Hilton), 78, of Erie, Colorado, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at Longs Peak Hospital in Longmont, Colorado. She was born on January 21, 1947, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Rudolph “Rudy” and Leola Hilton.

Becky is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Shettleroe, whom she married on April 9, 1985; her loving daughter, Lorie Shealy, and son-in-law, Lee Shealy; her cherished grandchildren, Jessica Shealy-Ballard and Brittany Shealy; and her precious great-grandson, Braxton. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She is further survived by her sisters, Judy Hilton Paden and Trudy Hilton Ruch.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph “Rudy” and Leola Hilton; her brother, Scott Hilton; her sisters, Renee Hilton Ball and Billie Jo “BJ” Hilton Phillips; and her niece, Lindsey Ball.

Education was central to Becky’s life. She graduated from Honeycreek High School in Terre Haute, Indiana, and earned her degree in Mathematics from Indiana State University. She later completed a master’s degree in Education from the University of South Carolina. Learning was never just something Becky pursued in school—it was a lifelong calling. She devoted her career to teaching mathematics at the high school, junior high, and junior college levels. Her students admired her strong teaching skills, her sense of order, and her witty—sometimes edgy—sense of humor that made her lessons unforgettable.

Becky had a deep passion for flower gardening and took immense pride in the beautiful gardens she and her husband lovingly created and maintained together. A weed never stood a chance under her care.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Becky enjoyed hiking, camping, and backpacking with her husband and close friends, always finding joy in nature’s beauty. Her adventurous spirit also took her around the world. Among her many travels, a wildlife safari in Australia stood out as especially memorable. Still, her favorite destination was Italy, where she delighted in the breathtaking scenery, exquisite food, and timeless architecture.

Becky loved her family deeply and treasured the time she spent with friends—both lifelong companions and those she met along life’s new paths. Her constant companion, her cat Franklin, brought her daily joy and comfort, especially during their morning walks.

After moving to Colorado, Becky quickly became an integral part of her community. Known for her sharp mind, quick wit, and competitive yet cheerful spirit, she brought enthusiasm and laughter to every game of Mahjong, Wordle, Connections, and cards. Her friends adored her intelligence, humor, and spirited, sharp-tongued charm.

Thursday mornings at the Fox Dog Coffee Shop became a cherished ritual, where Becky and her group of “gals” shared stories, coffee, and friendship. Those simple mornings reflected what Becky valued most—connection, laughter, and the beauty of everyday moments spent with people she loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a tree be donated in Becky’s name, or that a memorial contribution be made to the World Wildlife Foundation, honoring her deep love of nature and wildlife. Donations may be made at:

No formal service will be held. A celebration of life will be announced in the coming weeks and will most likely be held in May or June in Erie, Colorado.
