George B. Taylor passed away peacefully at home with family on January 25th, 2026. Through his journey of almost 86 years, he touched many lives with his wisdom, humor and honesty. He was a mentor to many. He is survived by his loving wife Janine, his children Keith Taylor, Celeste Taylor, and Katy (Justin) McKibben, his grandchildren Foster and Elsa, and his loving dogs Jackson and Ziva. He was preceded in death by his stepson Justin Darr.
George was born February 5th, 1940, to Jack and Helene Taylor in Rocky Mount N.C. He graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1958, then attended NC State University where he received his BS in Electrical Engineering while in the ROTC program in preparation for his service in the US Army. George entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt and became the Battery Commander of an Artillery unit in Vietnam. He was decorated for his service and discharged at the rank of Captain. After his military service, George received his MBA from Duke University. He worked for major American companies and did business in nearly every European and Asian country.
George raced Formula 1 cars, skied the alps and Rocky Mountains, and lived in England, France and Australia before retiring New Bern, N.C. in 1998, where he met and married the love of his life, Janine. Together they found joy travelling extensively on road trips around the country, including many visits to Monument Valley. George taught Janine his love of golf and they moved to the west coast of Florida in 2011 for year-round play. George became a Friend of Bill W’s on May 11th, 1977, and spent much of his time helping others with problems with alcohol.
George will be forever missed and loved endlessly. Rest peacefully
