Michael Dean Lyons, 82, of Lexington, and widower of Patricia (née Barker) Lyons died on Sunday, February 15, 2026. His loving daughters were by his side. A native of Drift, Floyd County, Kentucky, he was born to the late George Martin Lyons and Essie (née Vanover) Lyons on July 14, 1943. Michael served our nation honorably in the U.S. Army, and he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 1974.
Mr. Lyons is survived by his daughters, Deanna Michelle (Scott) Bowden and Amanda Kathryn (Donny) Pierce and four grandchildren: Kathryn Alexandra Bowden and Amber Victoria Bowden; Savannah McKenzie Pierce and Sydney Neva Pierce. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Martena Lyons Bunyard Estep.
He was a graduate of Paintsville High School, Class of 1961. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Kentucky (‘65). Michael had a successful career as a mechanical engineer and project manager for WABCO/Rexroth and later LexAir, from which he retired in 2021.
A celebration-of-life visitation will be held at Clark Legacy Center-Brannon Crossing from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026. U.S. Army military honors will be rendered at 3:00 p.m.
