Deby Short Stinson, age 87, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 30, 1938, in Greensboro, North Carolina, Deby lived a life rich in creativity, music, and deep affection for her family and friends. She had a lifelong passion for music—especially jazz—which she enjoyed daily. In her younger years, she was often found on the dance floor, a reflection of her joyful spirit and love of life.

Deby found great peace in nature and cherished her daily long walks along the beach. She was also known for her talent in interior decorating and her remarkable ability to propagate and care for houseplants, a gift that brought beauty into the homes of many. Until recent years, she was a proud member of the Moose Lodge of Ormond Beach.

Deby is survived by her son, Shawn Stinson (Carla); her daughter, Fauni Lowe (Dan); and her beloved grandchildren: Haley Stinson Varney (Taylor), Jeremy Stinson, Jesse Stinson Lucas (Pack), Sydney Stinson, Jake Lowe, and Andie Lowe. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Hudson Varney, Baker Lucas, and Bowen Lucas. She additionally leaves behind a nephew and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Stinson; her parents, Walter Short and Lois Sutphin Short; her brother, Tony Short; and her sister, Dorothy “Dot” Lackey.

In lieu of a formal service, Deby requested that those who remember her do so while listening to great jazz music and/or taking a peaceful walk on the beach—two of the simple joys that brought her great happiness.
