It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Janet Marie Burroughs, affectionately known as "Jan," on February 14, 2026, in Auburndale, Florida. Born on May 9, 1938, in South Charleston, West Virginia. Jan graced this world with her presence for nearly 88 beautiful years, filled with kindness and generosity. Jan's life was marked by the love she shared with her family and friends.
Moving to Florida in the early 1970's from West Virginia, Jan dedicated a significant part of her life to her career as a resort and hospitality housekeeper, a role that reflected her natural inclination towards caring for others. Her considerate, kind, and generous nature was evident not only in her professional life but also in her personal interactions, where her humor brightened any room she entered. In her leisure, Jan cherished the simple joys of life—playing bingo, cards, engaging with game shows, and immersing herself in books. However, it was her time spent with family that brought her the greatest joy. The moments shared around the table or during family gatherings showcased the love that bound her family together. Jan was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond "Buddy" Taylor, her second husband, Eldon Burroughs, and her beloved children—Billy Taylor, Douglas Taylor, and Lynn Taylor Branscome. Jan’s spirit remains a comforting presence for all who loved her. She is survived by her son, Rodney Taylor, and his wife, Paula Taylor, as well as her daughter, Faith Ann Wimberly. She was also preceded in death by six of her siblings, Eugene Spangler, Shirley Schultz, Mildred Hunt, Roger Spangler, Melvin Spangler and Jimmy Spangler. Jan's surviving siblings are Faye Burns, Carol Okraska, Thelma Terry, Patricia Gillispie and Brenda McGhee. Jan also leaves behind a legacy of love through her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will cherish her memory forever. Jan's warmth, laughter, and spirited essence will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched. As we celebrate her life, let us carry forward her legacy of generosity and kindness, honoring her memory in our hearts.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" held on Saturday, March 14th from 1:00 to 4:00 at the home of Rodney and Paula Taylor located at 118 Van Fleet Ct., Auburndale, FL
Rest in peace, dear Jan. You will always be loved and remembered.
