Ronald “Ron” Poast passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at his home in Lakewood, Colorado, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by the love of family who thought he was pretty great.
Ron was born on October 6, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Robert and Lillian (Malone) Poast. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy before building a career as a salesman. Ron raised his family in Southern California, making homes in Van Nuys and Ventura, and was a longtime member of Rotary. When his daughters were young, he never missed a game (always providing post game advice) and enjoyed volunteering as a booster for the marching band.
In 2018, Ron moved to Colorado to live with his daughter Kim and granddaughter Liliana—a decision that brought immeasurable joy to all who shared those years with him.
A man of few words but quick and sarcastic wit, Ron could most often be found putzing in his toolshed, creating cabinets, shoe racks, pipe holders, and drawers from found wood—or as he put it, “making boxes out of boxes.” When not in his workshop, he enjoyed watching his favorite shows and sports, playing solitaire on his computer, browsing the news, and smoking his pipe while leaning halfway out the back door.
Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Poast (Webb), who passed away in 2011. He is survived by his daughters Kim Poast of Lakewood, Jennifer Poast of Chula Vista, and Kristen Poast of Granada Hills; grandchildren Liliana Poast Soler, Thomas Wauchoupe, Emma Werth, Mackenzie Turner, Norman Turner, Talin Wauchope, and Tanner Wauchope, and sons-in-law Glen Wauchope and Michael Turner.
No formal services will be held per Ron’s wishes. Instead, please consider donating to Boys Town Nebraska, an organization Ron supported for many years.
Happy travels, Dad. Make many more crooked boxes, and be sure to lean out the door of heaven just a bit while enjoying your next pipe.
