Gladys Dillashaw - Obituary
Gladys I. Dillashaw died peacefully on February 20, 2026, at her North Charleston, SC home with her family by her side. Gladys was born February 26, 1935, to William and Suda May Southerland and grew up in Greenwood, SC. She grew up spending time with her grandmother since she lived so close by and playing with her siblings. She enjoyed picking strawberries, playing on the playground at the mill village where her father worked, jump rope, and skating with her friends.
Gladys married Jack Dillashaw on September 4, 1952. The two were each other’s lifelong companions, being married 70 years up until Jack passed away on October 16, 2022. They were blessed with four daughters – Jacqualine (Jackie), Gwendolyn (Gwen), Tambra (Tammy), and Sabreena. They lived in different places throughout the years, but Jack’s freight agent job at the railroad led them to settle down in North Charleston, SC. She had a natural talent for sewing, so she worked at a sewing factory there up until she retired. During her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her family, puzzles, reading, crocheting, and doing crafts.
Gladys is survived by her three daughters, Gwen, Tammy, and Sabreena; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Jack; brother, Arvie; sister, Margie; her oldest daughter, Jackie.
Gladys is especially remembered for her generosity, hospitality, strength, and kindness. She was always concerned for everyone’s welfare, which is something our family will always remember. Some words she lived by were “do unto others as you would have them to you” – and this she most certainly strived to do.
