Robert (Bob) Boyd, 85, of Carrollton, Kentucky passed away on February 12, 2026, in Lexington after suffering a stroke.
Bob was born in Pontiac, Michigan on June 23, 1940, to Robert Boyd and Ruth (Harrington) Boyd. As a young man he enlisted in the US Airforce where he was an Airman First Class working on airplane maintenance. He moved to Carrollton, KY in 1980 with his wife and children to help open the new Dayton Walther Foundry in Ghent as an electrical maintenance supervisor.
Bob enjoyed a love of watching trains, traveling by train, driving cross country in his motorhome and many years of square dancing in Kentucky and other states including at Disneyland in California.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon Boyd; sons Jeffrey Boyd and Eric Schoonmaker; daughter Eden (Skip) Van Hook, grandsons Willoughby Van Hook and Finley Van Hook; and bonus granddaughter Casey Stivender.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gary Boyd, and son Robert Max Boyd.
There will be a military burial service for family at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County, Kentucky on Friday, February 27, at 1:30 pm.
