Joseph (Joe) Hunter Jr., of Syracuse, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Joe and Marie Hunter.
Joe is a veteran of the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Post Office. He also worked for 28 years at Green Hills Farm. Joe was a baseball coach for Valley Little League, umpired baseball and refereed football and soccer.
Joe was predeceased by his wife Joan, brothers Bill, Jim, Tom, and 3 grandchildren. Joe was an extraordinary father and grandfather. He is survived by his sons; David, and Steven (Diana), daughters; Denise (Mike), Sharon (Frank), and son; Joel (Patty), 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
Joe enjoyed the family tradition of vacations in Ocean City, NJ, dancing with all the girls, eating ice cream, drinking Lambrusco wine and the family parties. Most of all he enjoyed his one-on-one birthday dinners with his children, their children and spouses, and his grandchildren and their spouses.
Joe was a friend to many and lived a full life to the age of 92, missing his 93rd birthday by 10 days.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you donate to the St. Jude Hospital or the Veterans Administration.
Friends may visit with family at the Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home in Syracuse on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 4PM to 7PM. A Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Thursday, March 5, 2026 with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Syracuse.
