It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share that Kerrie passed away this afternoon at the age of 55, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Kerrie proudly served in the United States Navy as a Machinery Repairman (MR), working in a field traditionally dominated by men. She was a true trailblazer for women — small in stature but fierce beyond measure, and without question one of the strongest women we have ever known.
Kerrie was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Cameron and her father, John Helgesson. She is survived by her loving husband, David Henderson; her sisters, Colleen Daignault and Tina Helgesson; and her brothers, David and John Helgesson.
She loved her Yorkie babies, Chewy and Nabu, and the dog park was her happy place — her gathering spot with friends. We’ve been overwhelmed learning just how many friendships she built there.
Kerrie also had a special love for sea life, especially manatees and dolphins. The ocean always held a special place in her heart.
We are heartbroken by her loss, but we are so proud of the life she lived and the strength she showed every day.
Service arrangements are still being made, and we will share details as soon as they are available. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to support manatee rescue and conservaton efforts. Contributions can be made to the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership, Save the Manatee Club, or Friends of the Manatee Lagoon -- organizations dedicated to protecting and rehabilitating manatees in Florida.
Fair winds and following seas, Kerrie. 🕊️
