Walter Douglas Hensley, age 57, passed away peacefully at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on March 1, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Doug was born on November 4, 1968, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Walter Lee Hensley and Wanda Sue Hensley. He became the oldest brother to Gregory Hensley and Lori Hensley Marcum.
Doug is survived by his wife, Josefina Castelan Hensley; his sons, Jonathan Douglas Hensley, Matthew Bryant Hensley, Jared Domingo Hensley, and Kevin William Lee Hensley; his daughter, Alison Laura Hensley; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Hensley.
Doug was the heart and foundation of our family. He loved with his whole heart. If you were part of his life, you felt it, in his words, his guidance, and his steady presence. He was always there: strong, protective, and unwavering. His faith in God was the foundation of his life through every season. He leaned on that faith and encouraged us to do the same.
His strong patriotism reflected the pride he carried for this nation, and his love for Kentucky was something he held dearly. Whether he was listening to his favorite country songs, or sharing stories of his hometown, Kentucky was always close to his heart. Doug also had a true love for basketball. Whether he was watching a Kentucky Wildcats game, wearing his favorite team shirt, or sharing that excitement with his family, basketball always brought him joy.
Doug showed his love through his cooking. He had a true gift in the kitchen. Nothing made him happier than preparing a delicious meal for the people he cared about. His food brought everyone together. Some of our favorite memories were made around his table, filled with laughter, full plates, and his unforgettable smile. Doug had a warmth that could light up any room. He genuinely cared about others and was always ready to lend a hand, offer advice, or simply listen.
He was firm in his beliefs, strong in his convictions, and gentle-hearted with those he loved. To us, he was more than a good man, he was our rock, our safe place, our greatest supporter. His voice, his laughter, and his steady presence will live on in our hearts forever.
We will miss him more than words can express, but we are thankful for every memory, every lesson, every meal, and every moment God blessed us to share with him. He will always be loved. He will always be remembered.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Tribute & Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 N Sharon Amity Rd., Charlotte, NC 28205.
Philippians 4:6-8 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.
