Mrs. Shu, of Charlotte, NC, died on February 28, 2026. Midge was born in Union County to the late Baxter L. Carnes and Lula Aycoth Carnes on April 25, 1927. She married the late Fred W. Shu, of Charlotte, February 27, 1948, at Dilworth Methodist Church. Midge graduated from Charlotte Tech High School and had a long career with Carolina Virgina Fashion Exhibitors, the Merchandise Mart and Carolina Trade Mart. An accomplished pianist and music lover, she played and sang in the choir at Belmont Park Methodist, later University City Methodist until she was 90 years old. Over her long life she was part of many groups but in her later years she was a devoted member of the Sew & Sews. Her quick wit and loving advice will be missed by many.

 

Preceded in death by her sister, Sadie Carnes Watson and her son H. Clinton Shu, Mrs. Shu is survived by her sons, Steven W. Shu and wife Sally, of The Woodlands, Tx, Marty R. Shu and wife Lacey, of Catonsville, Md. And her daughter Freida Riley and husband David of Mooresville, NC.

 

Also survived by 8 grandchildren, James and wife Irasema, Joanna and husband John, Paul and wife Allison, Christine and husband Jake, Jordan and husband Casey, Stephanie and husband Greg, Michael and wife Leah, and Harper along with 12 great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral Service will be held at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Hankins & Whittington, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC. Memorials may be made to University City United Methodist Church www.ucumc.org and Emily’s List www.emilyslist.org
