Dorothy Jeanne Dare (MacFadden) 95 of Sewell, NJ passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026.

She was the daughter of Frederick Rankin MacFadden, Sr. and Edna Lisbeth (Harrison) MacFadden, Glassboro, NJ. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Frederick R. MacFadden, Jr. and Edna Lisbeth (MacFadden) Hagerman.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Dallas Dare for 50 years before he passed in 2001.

She was born in Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ. She grew up in Glassboro, NJ and was a graduate of the class of 1947 from Glassboro High School. Dorothy and Robert married in 1951 and began their adventure together as husband and wife: This included following Robert to Camp LeJeune while he served in the military (Marines-Korean War) and working in the Officer’s Club, working in Philadelphia for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, and finally settling in Washington Twp., NJ. They built a brick home on a dirt road called Dare Lane and raised their family. Summer or winter, their home was a gathering place for friends and family. Dorothy worked for the Washington Twp. Public Schools as a classroom paraprofessional, and side by side with her husband in their many entrepreneurial businesses.

Affectionately known as Dondy to her family, she loved her home and the care of it: She had a green thumb and could make any plant sprout and flourish, she loved pruning shrubs, mowing the lawn, planting flowers, and caring for her pool. She also had a wonderful artistic side and at various times in her life she painted, took striking photos and framed them, and worked with clay. Her dignity, humor, and fortitude will be sorely missed by her four children and their families: Stephen and Rosemary (Fullam) Dare (Mullica Hill, NJ), Judith (Dare) and Fredrick Newberg (New Britain, CT), Douglas and Susan (Broadbent)Dare (Bridgeton, NJ) and Scott and Elizabeth (Belmonte)Dare (Mullica Hill, NJ). She will also be missed by eight grandchildren and their families (Matthew & Darrah Dare, Anna Newberg, Kelsey (Newberg) & Justin McMullen, Madelyn (Dare) & Zachary Austin, Clara Dare & Gregory Morley, Genevieve Dare & Kylie Frew, Jonathan Dare, and Sarah Dare. She leaves four adoring great grandchildren, Lana & Hazel Austin, and Zara & Isla McMullen.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved and enjoyed time with through the years. Last, but not least, she had a special love for her Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church Family. In 2023, Dorothy sold her home and moved to United Methodist Community in Pitman. She lived independently for 2 years and moved to assisted living in the past year. The family would like to thank the staff at UMC-Pitman for their care, empathy and companionship for their mother.

Family and friends are invited to the McGuiness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Road Washington Twp., NJ 08080 on Friday, March 13, 2026. Calling hours begin at 10am with a service following at 11am. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Memory of Dorothy Dare to Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church, 330 Greentree Road Sewell, NJ 08080. Make gifts payable to Bunker Hill Church and note "Attention Memorial Fund."
