Rosalie Mevec, age 87, peacefully passed away in Syracuse, NY. Raised in a loving home in West Wyoming, PA by her parents Thomas and Mary Jatkowski, Rosalie, an only child, loved her childhood and spoke of it often. She often said, “My whole life was a vacation.” Her father Tom was a coal miner and her mother Mary was a model homemaker. Rosalie graduated from West Wyoming High School in 1956 and was valedictorian. She received a full scholarship to College Misericordia in Dallas, PA where she graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor's in Education and went on to become a mother and educator. After graduation, she married the love of her life Harold J. Mevec, Sr (pre-deceased in 2014) and moved to Syracuse where Harold worked at General Electric.
Rosalie worked as a teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes from 1975 to 1999 where she loved and respected all of her students. Mrs. Mevec was an expert at getting students to the blackboard to work out their problems and never quit on any of her students whom she treated as young adults. Her classes were full of life’s lessons and humor. Rosalie donated her handmade crafts and time to school fundraising efforts. She was awarded St. John Baptist De La Salle Award for Extraordinary Commitment to the Ideals of Catholic Christian Education by the Federation of Catholic School Parents of the Diocesan of Syracuse in 1995. Loving teacher, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dedicated wife she created delicious family meals, holiday cookie trays, crafted beautiful hand made quilts, sewed, crocheted and knitted. Mom’s favorite phrase which originated from her father was “Pass it on!”. Share your knowledge and good fortune with a pure heart whenever possible.
Rosalie and Harold, married for 54 years, had three children: Harold (Vira) Mevec Jr, Ann Marie (Michael) Theberge and Thomas (Christine) Mevec. Had six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Michael (Khalysa, children Cameron and Emerson) Mevec, Jessica (Don) Mensing, Paul (Tasneen, children Noah, Elyas, Marcel) Theberge, Sarah (Andrew, children Everett and Liliana Rose) Stern, Alexander (Noor) Mevec, and Nathan (Leah Woods) Mevec.

Burial will be held in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
