Clyde C. Thompson III, age 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on March 3, 2026. He was the devoted husband of Laura I. Thompson, with whom he shared 31 wonderful years of marriage and a lifetime of friendship.
Clyde was born on April 5, 1960, to Clyde C. Thompson Jr. and Florence Mooneyhan Thompson. Throughout his life, Clyde was known for his steady character, loyalty, and quiet kindness to those around him.
He built a successful career as a systems engineer with Motorola, where he worked for many years before retiring in 2015. In addition to his professional career, Clyde dedicated his time to serving others. He proudly served in the Air National Guard and spent several years as a volunteer firefighter, always willing to step forward to help his community.
In recent years, Clyde and Laura embraced the life they loved most, spending the better part of the last 15 years enjoying the beauty and peace of the Outer Banks. The beach became their happy place, where they made countless memories together. Their home was also a haven for animals, especially the dogs they lovingly called their “fur babies.” Clyde and Laura shared a special love for animals and took great joy in giving many dogs a loving home.
In addition to his beloved wife Laura, Clyde is survived by his three sisters: Joyce Greer of Columbia, Pam (Marty) Motley of Hopkins, and Pat (Danny) Whittle of West Columbia, along with a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will remember him with love.
A private graveside ceremony for immediate family will be held on March 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in memory of Clyde to the Outer Banks SPCA or Pet’s Inc. in West Columbia, South Carolina, honoring his deep love for animals.
Clyde will be remembered for his loyalty, gentle spirit, and the love he shared with those closest to him.
