Gwendolyn Dee Hartensteiner (Bailey) 88 of Colorado Springs passed away at the Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit early March 5, 2026 after a warrior’s fight against Multiple Myeloma.

Gwen was born in Delta, Colorado to Dewey and Lesta Bailey.  She graduated from Blair Business College in Colorado Springs and spent the majority of her career as a bookkeeper and officer manager for a local pediatrician.  She loved meeting the families and children who came into the office throughout the years.

Though a quiet and reserved lady, Gwen possessed a vibrant spirit.  She was an avid read of mysteries and thrillers, often reading multiple books a week.  She was an accomplished quilter, and her family and friends will forever cherish the blankets she gifted them. Over the years, she found joy in crochet, macrame, and puzzles-and even found pleasure in roller skating at the City Auditorium during her lunch breaks in the eighties. She loved hosting holiday dinners for her family, and a cherished recent memory was the “trip of a lifetime” she took to Disney World in 2022 with her adult grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gwen and Tex met and married in Colorado Springs in 1957 while he was stationed at Ent Air Force base. She was a supportive wife who gracefully accepted the life of an Air Force spouse, navigating multiple moves and stations.

Gwen is survived by her three children.  JoAnne Allen (Travis) of Victor, Colorado, Richard Hartensteiner of Clay Center, Nebraska, and Judy Hopkins (Joseph) of Colorado Springs.  She was the grandmother to three, Erin Allen  (Katie) of Ortonville, Michigan, Sammy Jo Bunton (Stephen) of Evans, Colorado and Annie Bartolomeo (Jordan) of Gilberrtsville, PA. She also was a beloved great-grandmother to eight. She is survived by an older sister, Eula Sheldon of Grand Junction and was preceded in death by her brother William (Bill) Bailey and her husband of 63 years, Tex.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026 at All Veterans Funeral Home, 1020 E Fillmore St. Colorado Springs, CO  80907. A family viewing will be from 10:30AM-11:00AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00AM.  A graveside service will follow at 2:00PM at Memorial Gardens 3825 Airport Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care.  Pikepeakhospice.org. or  2550 Tenderfoot Hill St. Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
