Peter Chadwick

Peter David Chadwick, 80, of Glendale, Arizona, passed away on November 8, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 23, 1934, in Waterbury, Connecticut to Joseph and Frances Chadwick. He attended Hamden High School (class of 1952) and Brown University (class of 1956). Pete married Gail Howard in Glasgow, Montana, on April 14, 1962. Pete was a decorated Vietnam War veteran who flew Forward Air Control in his tour of duty. He was awarded multiple commendations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Bronze Star Medal. He retired as Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force. He is also a retired Instructor Pilot, Chief Pilot, and Operations Director at the Lufthansa Airline Training Center, in Goodyear, Arizona. A gifted athlete, Pete was a handball champion, marathon runner (30 over the course of his life including completing the Boston Marathon 6 times), and was an avid golfer. He was also known to dance with the grace and agility of Fred Astaire. Pete was a principled humanitarian who put everyone he met at ease. He showed a sincere interest in other people's lives. His quick wit and intellect were balanced with a genuine humility. His greatest pride and passion was his family. His spirit lives on in all who knew and loved him; this is his legacy. He is survived by his wife Gail Chadwick; daughters Leslie Chadwick of Peoria, AZ, and Jennifer Chadwick of Oakland, AZ; son Anthony Chadwick of Phoenix, AZ; sister Patricia Chadwick Carey and brother Joseph Chadwick of Hamden, CT. Included in those whom Pete held dear were his three "granddogs", Maisy, Little Man, and Truman, all of whom laid with and protected him to the end. A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on November 14, 2014, at the Luke AFB Chapel on the Mall. Rev Deanne Hodgson will be officiating.
