Richard Oldfield
September 30th, 2021
Services will be held in Santa Cruz on October 23, for Richard Oldfield who passed away at his home with his loving family at his bedside. Affectionately known as Rick or Ricky, he had just recently celebrated his 75th birthday. Rick was born at Sister’s Hospital in Santa Cruz and graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1965 where he played football. For more than 38 years, Rick worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service. He met his future wife Susan Knapp in June of 1972 and they were married in February 1973. The couple became involved in C.B. radios and soon started a club with other enthusiasts, enjoying barbecues and other social events. Rick was an avid hot rod and classic car aficionado. Favorite memories will continue to be cherished by his family and friends of his cars; including a Plymouth Roadrunner, a 1923 Ford “T” bucket roadster, and his 1965 Chevy Nova. He was a familiar face at the local coffee and cars gatherings, and was a longtime member of the “Cam Snappers” car club. Rick closely followed the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. He and his wife shared many historic moments as season ticket holders during the Joe Montana - Dwight Clark era, witnessing “The Catch”. He had a passion for baseball and coached for 18 years with the Capitola-Soquel Little League. Rick felt blessed to have made lifelong friendships with coaches, parents, and players who continued to stay in touch throughout the years. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Susan Oldfield and his son Tim Oldfield. He also leaves his loving nieces and nephews: Kim, Mark, and Brian Brouse, Amber Lashbrook, Joshua Jackson, Chelsea Jackson and Brittany Jackson and all of their families, He was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Jackson, his mother, Lynette Long ,and his father, Ralph Oldfield.
