Fredrick "Fred" Hayes, 84, of Marysville passed away October 20th, 2016 with family at his side. Fred was born September 8th, 1932 in Cairo, Illinois, the 11th of 12 children to parents Charles M. and Nevada Hayes. He graduated from Carver High School in Chicago, Illinois and joined the US Air Force where he served our country for 23 years. After retiring from Beale Air Force Base in 1975, Fred opened The Artist's Showcase with his wife Rita where he displayed their artwork alongside other local artists, sold art supplies, taught art classes, and provided professional custom framing. He served as a United Way board member, member of the Lions Club, and was on the Appeal Democrat Readers Board. In 2000, he combined his passion for golf and children and co-founded, with the late USAF Colonel George J. Iles, the Iles Academy of Golf for Kids where he served as President for 10 years. After handing over his leadership role, Fred continued on the board of members. In 2015, the Iles Academy of Golf for Kids' annual golf tournament was renamed the Fred Hayes Golf Tournament in his honor. Fred leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of 30 years, Rita; daughters Wanda (Semaj), Sharon (Orlando), Nongcran (Ruben), and Suree; son Leon; step-children Lynda, Charles (Tara), and Jimmy (Donna); 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Maxine (Ernest) and Doris (Lonnie); brothers-in-law Ramon Greene (England) and John Barksdale (Chicago); sister-in-law Elaine Hayes (Seattle); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles M. and Nevada Hayes; sisters Jeanette, Helen, Vivian, Nadine, and his twin sister Freda; and brothers Melvin, Harold, Charles, and C. Ralph. Memorial service will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St., Yuba City on Friday October 28, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. At Fred's request, any donations should be made to Iles Academy of Golf for Kids PO BOX 1384, Marysville, CA 95901, Tax ID #68-0459477.
