Mary Kelly Smith

Mary Kelly Smith passed away on June 27, 2015. Mary was born April 13, 1948 to James and Sarah O'Neill in Johnstone Scotland. She was a geriatric nurse for over 25 years and received her training at the Royal Alexandra Infirmary, Paisley. She met her husband, Andrew Smith while he was a sergeant in the Royal Green Jackets. They married in 1971 in Germany. They have two children, Teresa & Gary. In 1985 the family emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Lake Don Pedro, where they were residents for over 20 years. Mary retired from nursing and opened a consignment furniture store in Sonora which she ran successfully until she decided to fully retire and move to the Yuba Sutter area to be closer to her growing family. Mary's true passions in life were family, friends, and animals. She volunteered and supported many animal causes, with a special affinity for wolf rescue. She was devoted to her family and friends and worked tirelessly to make her home a place of good food, laughter and love. She shined her brightest as Grandma/Nana. Her love for over 43 years was her husband, Andrew. Their relationship was one that was admired by many. They were true friends, lovers and partners in crime. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah O'Neill of Scotland, her brother Harry O'Neill of Scotland, her mother in-law and father in-law John and June Smith of Fremont /England. She leaves behind her husband, Andrew Smith of Marysville, her daughter, Teresa Russell and son-in-law Craig Russell of Marysville. Her son, Gary Smith of Roseville. Her grandchildren, Aiden, Allison, Austin and Ashlyn Smith of Roseville. Abby and Lauren Russell of Marysville. Her sister-in-law, Sandra O'Neill of Scotland. nieces and nephews, Jim O'Neill, Sharon Jones, Harry O'Neill, Zara Banaghan, of Scotland. Sister and brother in-law Teri and Jim Turrentine of Elk Grove. Niece Karen Bass and nephew, Matt Turrentine of Elk Grove. A memorial service will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2nd. Family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mary's honor to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
