Surinder Singh Bains

On Sunday, January 14, 2024, Surinder Singh Bains passed away at the age of 90. Surinder Singh was born on April 13, 1933, in Gujjarwal, Punjab to Rattan Singh and Gurbachan Kaur Bains. He was raised in Mahilpur, Punjab, and was the eldest of four children. He married Gurmej Kaur (Johl) Bains at the age of 20. They were married for 69 years before Gurmej's death. Surinder Singh obtained his B.Ed degree in Science from Hoshiarpur DAV College Jallander and his Master's Degree in Psychology from Panjab University Chandigarh. He worked as a teacher. They immigrated to the United States in 1972, and Surinder Singh has been a resident of Yuba City, CA, for 52 years. Surinder Singh is survived by his grandson, Jagger Bains; granddaughter, Jaeden Bains; sisters, Satwant Kaur (Amolak Singh) and Amarjit Kaur (Davinder Singh); and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gurmej; his son, Rajwinder Bains; and his brother, Kulwinder Singh. He will be remembered as a thoughtful and quiet man who dedicated his life to his family. Services will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 11:00 am at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City, CA. Prayer services will follow at Tierra Buena Sikh Temple, 2468 Tierra Buena Road, Yuba City, CA.
