It is with deep sorrow we announce that our darling Hunter Jonathon Voss tragically left us suddenly on September 7th, 2022. Hunter became unresponsive on the way home from urgent care and despite CPR and medical intervention from his mother and medical professionals for over an hour, he passed away. Hunter was born on November 5th, 2012 in Riverside, California to parents, Ariel Voss and Joshua Bemis. During his birth, he suffered a birth injury. This resulted in his diagnosis of Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and seizures as an infant. Despite the challenges of his disability, Hunter was a bright and vibrant child who could always find a reason to smile. He loved music, school(math and science were his favorite subjects), skateboarding, karate, video games, dancing, singing, movies and TV(Garfield was one of his favorites), animals(especially cats and dogs), going on adventures and traveling, meeting new people, and spending time with people he loved. Throughout the years, Hunter worked hard and overcame so much. He outgrew his seizures and had been seizure-free for many years. He increased his strength, mobility, and control of his body and environment through years of hard work at therapy and the use of adaptive equipment. He excelled at school despite his challenges with communication and had recently become skilled at using his AAC to communicate with those around him. He often told us he loved us with his AAC, which brought him and us such joy. Sometimes, he would use words on his AAC to make music which he was very proud to share with us. We will always cherish the moments of connection we had together through his use of his AAC and we were so very proud of how far he’d come. Although his life was shorter than we’d hoped, Hunter’s nine years in this world left a great impact. His boundless love and joy brought happiness to everyone he met. His laughter was infectious and he told such great jokes(puns were his favorite). He showed everyone that the little things were cause to celebrate and that even if you go slow, progress was always possible. Hunter was a truly beautiful soul and we will miss him always. Although we can no longer hold him in our arms, we will hold him in our hearts and keep his memory alive. Hunter was predeceased by his maternal great grandmother Peggy Lenore Voss, great grandfather Richard C. Voss, paternal great grandparents Charles and Dorothy Blake and Roger and Mary Bemis, and paternal great great aunt Evelyn Hubacker. Hunter is survived by his mother Ariel, dad DJ, and nana Peggy of San Diego, his father, Josh, sister, Maisie, grandmas Jan and Debbie, uncle Alex, and aunt Kristie of San Jose, and his grandma Zina and uncle Marcus of Moreno Valley. He is also survived by his many other family members, including his godfather Jon, great grandma Marlene, great aunt Vicky, great uncle Mike, cousins Phantasha, Shalina, and Katarena, and many, many more who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been Hunter’s 10th Birthday, November 5th, 2022, at 2pm at Legacy Funeral and Cremation Care, located at 7043 University Ave., La Mesa, CA 91942.
