John “Jay” Shirreffs, III, of Santee, California, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023. Born in Hagerstown, MD on April 8, 1947, he was the son of the late John “Jack” Shirreffs, Jr. and Winefrd Warner. Jay served as a corpsman in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He loved baseball and worked as a semi-pro umpire in southern California for over 25 years. Jay was active in service to those in need. He lived his values consistently and was loved for his efforts. Mr. Shirreffs is survived by his son, John Shirreffs, IV and wife, Samantha, and their children, Zachary and Vincent, of North Carolina; daughter, Kimberly Shirreffs-Hannabarger and husband, Donald, and their children, Alyssa, Zoey, Elijah, and Noah, of Texas; step-daughter, Cyndy Lindsay and husband, Wade, and their children, Brett Lindsay and Jenna McKnight (Aaron), of California; step-son, Troy Morrison and his children, Marissa, Justin, and Amanda, of California; and step-son, Doyle Morrison and wife, Alisha, and their children, Ashley and Stuart (YiBei), of California. In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his wife of 18 years, Carol Shirreffs; sister, Kerry Shirreffs; and brother, Jeffery Shirreffs. Services for Mr. Shirreffs will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
