Willis Dean Vance, a beloved husband, dedicated educator, and esteemed coach, peacefully stepped from time into eternity at home, on May 1st at the age of 91, surrounded by his cherished family. He was born to Wilbur and Rebecca Vance on January 1, 1933, in Burley, Idaho along with his twin sister Jean. 

At an early age the Vance family moved to the Homedale area to homestead where he spent the rest of his growing up years. After graduating he married Karen (Boslau) on the 31st of December 1952. Shortly after, Dean enlisted in the Navy where he proudly served his country, bringing his new wife with him while stationed in El Centro, California and Japan.

Upon honorable discharge he attended college at Pocatello, graduating with his BA in 1962, later receiving his master's from College of Idaho. As an educator, Dean's impact was profound and far-reaching. Beginning his teaching journey in Midvale, Idaho, he later settled in the Homedale community, where he dedicated himself to shaping young minds with passion and care for 31 years. His commitment to education touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on generations of students.

Although Dean and Karen had no biological children, they had a major part in raising Rod, Lonnie, Shelly and Leah. Leah came to them at a young age and considered them her parents for her whole life, graduating from Homedale High as Leah Vance. 

Dean also found success as a women's high school basketball coach. His coaching prowess was exemplified in 1980 when he was honored as Coach of the Year, leading the Homedale team to a state championship victory. His leadership, mentorship, and unwavering support inspired his players both on and off the court.

Throughout Dean’s whole life, starting as a young man, he felt the call in his heart to walk with God. He continued steadfastly with that profession his whole life affecting all that he did. He was preceded in death by his brothers Roger, Marion, Ronald, his twin sister Jean and his beloved Leah. His legacy will be carried on by his loving wife of 71 years Karen, and Leah’s sons Jasper, Caleb, and Cody. His loss will also be felt by numerous nephews, nieces, and a multitude of friends.

Dean’s life was a testament to the power of dedication, love, and service, to God, his family and his community. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and love.                  

Viewing at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Homedale Thursday May 9th from 5-7pm with the Memorial service Friday May 10th at 2pm. Interment will be held with immediate family at a later date.
