John Mingo, 82 of Seminole passed away March 15, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Jelene, his sisters Marian (Skip)Mattos and Claudia Mingo, stepdaughter Kim (Brian) Lallemand, grandson Travis, Will Ware(Kimmie), and grandchildren Gary and Mary. John was originally from Attleboro, Mass. where before entering the Air Force John he was a volunteer fireman in Massachusetts. John was proud to be awarded the commission of Kentucky Colonel, which is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky. It is recognition of an individual's noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to our community, state and nation. John was a champion of the people and moved to Seminole in 1975 where he was active in his community by serving various city and charitable veterans organizations for many decades. He was a former Seminole city council member in the 70 and 80's whose motto was "listen to the people". John served our country in the Air Force during Korean War and continued to serve his fellow veterans all his life. He was former commander of the Seminole Disabled American Veterans (DAV), former assistant director of services for the state DAV organization. Mingo was an active lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW). He was past commander of Seminole VFW Post 9272 in 1987,1988,1994,1999,2000,2005; Past VFW District 9 commander, and State VFW Deputy Chief of staff 2012-2013. John was also a member of the American Legion, Am Vets, and the Elk's and a supporter of the Sherriff Boys Ranch. John lived a full life and enjoyed many good times and fun vacations with his VFW friends and blended extended family. John loved being outdoors golfing, gardening and most recently enjoying the good life at Nature's Resort at Homosassa River. Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 5, at 10:00 am at Bay Pines National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at his home 10825 72nd Ave N Seminole immediately following the memorial service.
