Our Beautiful Butterfly: November 8, 2011 - May 30, 2018Naomi Grace went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2018. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and wonderful care team. Her life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile, the way she held your hand so tight, and soft skin, brought so much joy to our family. Although she was so frail, she gave us all such courage and hope, reminding us of the preciousness of life. She loved snuggles with Sissy and watching Disney movies, and cuddling close with Mommy and Daddy. She loved reading books with her Bubby, tasting watermelon and chocolate, sitting outside with the wind in her hair, listening to music, and playing her piano.As we all know, there were things that Naomi couldn't do. She couldn't walk. She couldn't talk. She couldn't do many things other people take for granted every day. When some people looked at her they saw the things she couldn't do. But when her mother, her father, her family, and care team looked at her, they seldom observed what she couldn't do. No, they watched the many things she could do. In a glance, a smile, a feather-touch, she shared her diary of thoughts, and dreams, and love. She could feel unbridled happiness and would share love without condition. Naomi's extraordinary gift was her ability to share and inspire those feelings of love, happiness, empathy, tenderness, and respect from every person who was fortunate enough to cross her path. Looking around her room, you would see butterfly decorationsbutterflies adorn the walls, butterfly pillows and butterfly blankets cover her bed. Naomi camouflaged the butterfly she was, just barely below the surface. Imprisoned in a cocoon of CDKL5, which could have held her back from truly expressing her inner beauty, Naomi Grace's triumph was always in her ability to transcend the bounds of her struggles. Her glow, the sweet rays of light that she shone upon us, was ever-present in her smiles, her laughter, her kisses. Her freedom from the bounds of the cocoon are now so very bittersweet. Although we know that now she is free, free from all of her suffering, and able to express her beauty to all around through her gentle spirit, we will miss her eyes, her smile, her touch. Oh, beautiful butterfly, Naomi Grace, how blessed we are to have been graced with her light! Her love, her light, is the profoundly perfect legacy she has left with us to share with one another.
