Finocchiaro, Janet "Mrs. Finney" 75, of St. Petersburg, started her next adventure on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Born in Newburyport, MA, she came here in 1989 from Methuen, MA. A lifelong tailor and seamstress, Janet created things with her hands and was responsible for creating hundreds of garments in a variety of materials. That which she didn't create, she would alter to make sure an individual always had a perfect fit to look their best. She was unceasingly devoted to her husband Raymond, her children, grandchildren, and her extended family. Janet was the resident tailor of Admiral Farragut Academy for a number of years in the 90s and through Farragut she enjoyed expanding her family to every child who ever walked through her doors. She extended kindness and understanding to many of the students of the Academy and she became a best friend to many of them. Being simple and a homemaker, she lived through the actions of her surrogate children and many of them would bring her treasured items from faraway places which she would comment for years after. She possessed a humble nobility and easily made the acquaintance of others. She enjoyed coming to the dinners and breakfasts at Gulf Beach Masonic Lodge in Madeira Beach, Florida. She treasured the friendships she made at the lodge through her son. In times of illness she would be visited by Brothers of the Lodge and her family wishes to extend its gratitude to David, Fernando, Ismael, Steve, and the many other brothers who visited her and showed her kindness. She was welcomed into her new life by her father, Leonard Sherbin Tilton, and her sister, Beverly Viel. She preceded her mother, Alice Martino, by only a few hours and was there to greet her when she entered into rest. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years Raymond; her children, Donnamarie Welch and Joseph; grandchildren, Sara Rastellini, Daniel Rastellini Jr and Josephine Finocchiaro; sister Adele Martino and Susan Johnson; beloved family friend William "Bill" Holo; her countless Farragut kids that she touched over the years; and the hundreds of others with whom she shared friendships that are innumerable to mention. In honor of her memory, her family requests that you please do a random kind act of kindness for someone you don't know in fond remembrance of her compassion and generosity.
