James Salter III, (Jim) age 71, of Seminole, passed away on Wednesday, February 8th at home with his family by his side and under the care of his wife, family and Suncoast Hospice Teal Team. Born July 3, 1940 in Hartford CT, Jim moved to Florida from Guilford CT in 1982. He was predeceased by his father James Jr and his mother Phyllis Salter. Until retirement in 2005, Jim spent his career in the lighting industry. He was a sales manager for several lighting manufacturers and also owned his own manufacturers' representative agencies, both in CT and in FL. Besides his family, of which he was very proud, beloved pets, and many friends, Jim had several interests throughout his lifetime including sailing, boating, travel, history, art, music, educational TV, sports, dining out, and just "doing whatever" with his friends. He has been a member of several organizations during his lifetime in CT and FL, including the American Legion Squad Post 273 in Madeira Beach. Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years Elaine, daughter Kimberley of St. Petersburg, Son James P and his wife Isabel of St. Petersburg, sister-in-law Mary Somick, niece Marie Randall, nephew Stephen Somick, several cousins, many friends from childhood to the present, his three cats, and his dog Ella. Per his wishes, a private family gathering will be held, as well as a Celebration of Life in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to any no-kill animal rescue group or shelter.
