Bertoline, Alfred Peter ?Pete?, 64, a St. Petersburg native, died Sunday, July 7th, 2002 at St. Anthony?s Hospital. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Petersburg High School and a member of St. Bartholomew?s Episcopal Church. He was the first resident to drive across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge when it opened, driving right behind the Mayor of St. Petersburg, and ironically, he was the first Police Officer on the scene when the bridge fell many years later. He retired as a Sergeant with the St. Petersburg Police Department after 22 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved hunting, fishing, and wood working. He was a member of JRB Hunt Club in Madison, FL and the NRA, and he was a past member of the Wyoming Antelope Club. He is survived by 1 son, Alfred P. ?Fred? Bertoline, Jr.; 2 daughters, Cheryl Lynn Phillippi and Lori Bertoline Cihak; his mother, Rose Evelyn Bertoline; 1 sister, Melinda B. Brett; 7 grandchildren, six of St. Petersburg and one of Greene, NY, and several nieces and nephews.
