Burns, Dr. James C., 75, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday, November 3, 2005 at St. Anthony?s Hospital. Born in Scotland, he came here in 1979 from Strafford, PA. He received his PhD from Liverpool University in England. He served as a Chief Engineering Fellow with Honeywell and retired after 20 years. Prior to Honeywell, Dr. Burns worked for General Electric?s Space Center in King of Prussia, PA where he worked on reentry systems for the Apollo program. Prior to coming to the United States the family lived in Elizabeth North, South Australia. Locally, he was a member of the Boca Ciega Yacht Club and GHSA Gulf Hunter Sailing Association. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan Burns; a son, Gavin Burns of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; three daughters: Lesley Long of Woodbine, MD, Karen Burns of Gulfport, FL, and Fiona Rodgers of St. Petersburg, FL; a sister, Anne Paterson of Crieff, Scotland; a brother, Robin Burns of Perth, Australia; and three grandchildren ?
