James R. Hobbs
November 21st, 1933 - December 13th, 2016
Hobbs, James R. "Jim" (83) of St. Petersburg, died peacefully on December 13, 2016. Born in East Hartford, CT, he moved to Florida in 1957. He retired after working many years at First National Bank (now Wells Fargo). Jim earned his A. S. in banking and finance from Saint Petersburg Junior College. He graduated from the Banking School of the South at Louisiana State University. He was a member of the Suncoast Rotary and served as president in 1985. He was recognized by Rotary as a Paul B. Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E (Elks), the Chamber of Commerce and worked as a campaign coordinator for the United Way. Jim also served as president several times for the American Institute of Banking (A.I.B.). He was passionate about education and was the advisor for the Interact Club at Boca Ciega High School. He also served on the Student Advisory Committee (SAC) of Boca Ciega High school for ten years. In 1983, he ran for a position on the Pinellas County School Board. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Saint Petersburg Male Chorus. He shared his singing talent with others by performing the "Lord's Prayer" at numerous weddings and funerals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bridget Ann Hobbs, and his brother, Thomas. Survivors include Diana, his wife of 64 years and 11 months, his sister, Mary (Robert) Angiletta of Meriden, CT, his children, Jim (Laurie) Hobbs, Margaret (Jim) Ladd, Thomas (Judy) Hobbs, Diana (Robert) Colwell, Ann Marie (Walt) Hoambrecker, Kendra (Michael) Cote, 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family. Visitation will be on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 7 9pm at Anderson McQueen Family Tribute Center, 2201 Dr. M. L. King Street N, where a funeral service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, December 17, 2016. Memorial contributions may be sent to Suncoast Hospice at www.memorial-donations.org.
