Lavenia Mae (Triplett) Bailey succumbed to death on April 24, 2009 at 11:30 PM after a very long illness. She was born Lavenia Cobb in Grandfield, Oklahoma on December 3, 1927. She was the daughter of Opal Josephine Newsome and Samuel Phillip Cobb. Lavenia was one of eight children. Her family affectionately knew Lavenia as ‘Veenie’ or ‘Deanie’. She was raised in Macomb, Oklahoma outside of Shawnee, Oklahoma and moved to Washington State in 1949 with her husband, Joy Dean (JD) Triplett who preceded her in death. Veenie and JD had four children together, Larry Dean Triplett, residing in Alamogordo, New Mexico; Sam Arnel Triplett residing in Kent, WA; and Marie LaJoy Triplett-Pierce also residing in Kent, WA. Tragically, her youngest son Guyle Brent Triplett preceded Veenie in death. Veenie’s second husband, Allen A. Bailey also preceded her in death as well as three siblings, brothers Sammie L. Cobb and George Allen (Al) Cobb, and sisters Mrs. Delphia L. Schultz and Mrs. Blanche Hubert. Three sisters, Mrs. Ellen L. Crouch, Mrs. Margie J. Ananders, both of Oklahoma and Mrs. Reva Dee Bradford of Oregon and two grandsons Jeffrey Pierce of Tukwila, and Brent Pierce of Kent, one great-grandson, Guyle L. Pierce, her daughter-in-law, Linda K. (Mrs. Sam) Triplett of Kent, Washington and many nieces and nephews, survive Lavenia. Veenie loved the Bible. Here is one of her favorite Scriptures: The 23rd Psalm The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall lack nothing. 2 In grassy pastures he makes me lie down; By well-watered resting-places he conducts me. 3 My soul he refreshes. He leads me in the tracks of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk in the valley of deep shadow, I fear nothing bad, For you are with me; Your rod and your staff are the things that comfort me. 5 You arrange before me a table in front of those showing hostility to me. With oil you have greased my head; My cup is well filled. 6 Surely goodness and loving-kindness themselves will pursue me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord to the length of days. Veenie was famous for her Secret Fudge Recipe. It was only after much nagging for the recipe that she gave it to us – It’s the recipe on the back of the Marshmallow Fluff jar. She was such a joker! Here’s the recipe: Veenie’s Famous Secret Fudge Recipe makes 2 1/2 pounds •2 1/2 cups sugar •3/4 teaspoon table salt •1/4 cup unsalted butter •5 ounces evaporated milk (3/4 cup) •7 1/2 ounces Marshmallow Fluff •3/4 teaspoon vanilla •12 ounces semisweet chocolate morsels •1/2 cup walnuts, chopped or substitute pecans 1.Butter a 9 inch square baking pan. 2.Combine first 5 ingredients in a large saucepan, stirring over low heat until blended. 3.Heat to a full-rolling boil being careful not to mistake escaping air bubbles for boiling. Boil slowly, stirring constantly, 5 minutes. 4.Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and chocolate until chocolate is melted. 5.Add nuts and turn into buttered pan and cool.
