Opal Cook (Jamerson) June 5, 1921 ~ August 15, 2012 Opal was born in Grandview Washington and raised throughout Washington State. Her Parents Othal and Mabel had 5 children, Opal and 4 boys. She attended grade school in Toppenish and later graduated from Buckley High School in 1939. Opal married a young Coast Guard named Frank Bretz Summerfield. After having daughter Sandra Frank died of Hodgkin’s disease. Widowed Opal moved back to Seattle where she raised her daughter alone. When she became a secretary at McChord AFB she met and married Charles E. Cook (Chuck). They had another daughter Jill and were married for 55 ½ years. On August 15, 2012 The Angels and our father came and took our mother to go live with him and fly with the Angels after a 30 year battle with heart disease. Our mother was strong and courageous, however she could no longer keep up the fight against her heart disease. Opal was very active with PTA throughout Sandra and Jill’s school years, she was also in “Eastern Stars” for many years and was Guardian Mother for Job’s Daughter Bethel 32. Opal and a couple of close neighbors started a knitting group called “ The Knit Wits”. They got together every Wednesday afternoon, they would take turns going to one another’s house for this, the hosting Knit Wit would provide the lunch and beverages. What started out as 3 soon became about 8. Mom really enjoyed this time with the Ladies. After her youngest daughter Jill graduated Opal and her Husband Chuck decided to sell the house and travel before settling in Yuma Arizona. They lived there for 29 years before coming back to Tacoma. They made many friends in Yuma and was hard to leave but had to due to Chuck’s illness. Preceding in Death is her Husband Charles E. Cook, Grandson Justin, she is survived by daughters Sandra Kozak (Steve Cirisciloi), Jill Cook McQuillin (Mike McQuillin), Grandchildren: Jeff Kozak (Karie), John Kozak (Barbara), Andrew McQuillin, Tara McQuillin. 6 great-grandchildren and by 2 brothers, many, many nieces, nephews and extended family in the Tacoma Area. Opal is missed by everyone who loved and knew her. HER JOURNEY HAS JUST BEGUN Don’t think of her as gone away Her journey has just begun, Life holds so many facets This earth is only one. Just think of her as resting From the sorrows and the tears In a place of warmth and comfort Where there are no days or years. Think how she must be wishing That we could know today How nothing but our sadness Can really pass away.
