Born 12/27/31 in Seattle, Monte passed away 7/15/08 in Tacoma. He is survived by sons Curt, Jay (Jodi) and Ross (Terri); daughter Laura (Doug); 10 grandchildren; former wife Helen; sister Shirley. Monte grew up on Mercer Island, graduating from Garfield HS. He completed his freshman year at U of W before serving in the US Navy for one year during the Korean War. He returned to the U of W, completing an engineering degree and participating on the crew team. In 1960 Monte rowed for the US Olympic Team in Rome. No medals, but a memorable experience. He went on to start the crew program as the first coach at WWSC. Later while living in Puyallup he became a member of the Daffodilian Organization. Much to the appreciation of his family he introduced us to a life of skiing. Special thanks to the staff of the Tacoma Lutheran Home. A celebration of Monte’s life will be held on Friday 7/25/08 @ 1pm at the Lakeview Congregational Chapel 4606 108th St. SW, Lakewood WA. In lieu of flowers please donate to Lummi Island Congregational Church PO Box 6 Lummi Island WA 98262.
