John "Jack" Traweek, 89, of Punta Gorda and Whitehall, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5. Jack was born on July 20, 1927 in Evanston, Illinois to Jessie Clyde and Helen "Teckie" Traweek. He graduated from Evanston High School in 1944, and at age17 enlisted in the US Navy. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy in 1945, he attended Northwestern University and graduated with honors in Electrical Engineering. After an early career, working for firms in Chicago and Milwaukee, he started his own company, Traco Engineering, patenting and manufacturing motor controls used in industrial machinery, and continued this venture until he retired in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Karen; his three children from his first wife Pat, Jan Arquilla, Mike Traweek, and John Traweek; his sister, Marilyn Inserra; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah; his brother, Jim, and his parents. Jack was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He also graciously welcomed Karen's girls and their families into his life. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his witty comments, his kindness and generosity, his love for fishing and boating, his passion for jazz and crossword puzzles, and for just being "Jack". We will miss him dearly and will cherish the memories we had with him. Arrangements are being made by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematory in Punta Gorda, FL. A Celebration of Life is planned for Monday, April 24th at 1:00 PM at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 9400 Indian Spring Cemetery Rd., Punta Gorda. A reception/lunch will follow at The Marina Southshore Clubhouse in Burnt Store Marina. There will also be a Celebration of Life July 22 at Ellenwood Landing in Whitehall, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Jack's name to the Charlotte County Jazz Society, P.O. Box 495321, Port Charlotte, FL. 33949 or the Howmet Theater in Whitehall, Michigan, 405 East Colby Street, Whitehall, MI. 49461. You may pay respects at www.charlottememorial.com
