The world lost a beautiful soul with the death of Thelma Lorraine Duvall as she passed peacefully in her sleep to be with our Lord on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Liberty Country Place in Centralia, Washington. Thelma was born on December 20, 1934 in Eureka, California to Ruth (Bloyd) Cornell and was raised by her mother and stepfather, Art Tetzlaff, in Aberdeen, Washington. She spent her adult life residing in Olympia and later in Oakville, Washington. Thelma was predeceased by the love of her life, Eugene E. Duvall. She is survived by her three loving daughters, RayeAnn Stull of Pe El, Nancy J. Fletcher (David) of Oakville, and Linda L. Olsen (Dale) of Olympia. She is also survived by her brother, Bill Marshall of Ten Mile, Oregon; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, Thelma was predeceased by her sisters, Phyllis, Barbara and Millie. Thelma loved her family and was known as “Grandma Bubbles” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma loved to travel. Her trip to Ireland was the highlight of her travels and she often spoke of her time there. Thelma was also a devoted Seahawks fan, never missing a game. She loved to play bingo and was a constant winner of the game right up until her death. Thelma was an avid reader, reading several novels per week. She loved teaching children and she taught for 27 years at the Oakville School District. Prior to her teaching career, Thelma spent 15 years running a home daycare. The School District was not only thankful for the years she spent teaching, but it was also grateful for the many hours that she volunteered at the school. Thelma was well known by several generations of school children as the “best recess lady.” The last several years of Thelma’s life were a struggle to survive; she had many surgeries and illnesses related to diabetes. Even after losing both of her legs and her kidneys to the disease, she still had an incredible zest for life. She never complained and always made the best of whatever life handed her. Thelma was a great inspiration to all who knew her, she was resilient and strong-willed, being on kidney dialysis for over ten years, never giving up her will to live. She resided at Liberty Country Place for the last six years of her life, where she made many friends; she loved the staff and the residents of Liberty Country Place. Thelma was a devoted wife and mother. She was a strong-willed woman who always looked for the bright side and never spoke ill of others. Thelma was an extraordinary woman with an extraordinary zest for life. She was extremely proud of her daughters and loved each of them. In addition, she had a great love for her grandchildren and they loved her in return. Thelma will be greatly missed by her family and by those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please made a donation to the American Diabetes Association. Please leave memories of Thelma or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
