George "Bill" Beck
August 31st, 1921 - May 8th, 2014
George William ""Bill"" Beck, 92, of Lady Lake, FL died on May 8, 2014. Bill grew up in Dayton Ohio, graduated from Fairview HS and then earned a degree in industrial engineering from General Motors Institute. After graduation Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Navy submarine service during WW II. While in the Navy, he married his first wife, Elizabeth Ann ""Betty"" Beck. After the war Bill returned to Dayton and went back to work for GM's Inland division. He worked at Inland for 40 years, retiring in 1985 as the Director of Engineering. He had numerous patents and innovations to his credit and was a lifetime SAE member. After Betty's passing, Bill married Norma LeCrone Beck. Bill and Norma enjoyed an active retirement in Nokomis and then in Venice at Jacaranda Trace. Bill was active in the community serving on the Kettering YMCA Board of Directors and on the Centerville – Washington Township school board. Bill enjoyed golf, was a private pilot and he loved sailing. Survivors include his wife, Norma Beck, of Zionsville, IN; son Bruce (Susie) Beck of The Villages, FL; daughter Christine (Joe) Ondras of Atlanta, GA; son Bill (Denise) Beck of Huntersville, NC; step-son Jonathan LeCrone of Zionsville, IN; step-daughter Kristen LeCrone of Zionsville, IN; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 12th at 2PM at Farley Funeral Home Venice Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 2001 Cantu Court, Sarasota, FL 34232.
