Ruth Jelks, 93, of Venice, FL, daughter of the late Rev. Hendley F. Jelks, formerly of Reynolds, GA died on June 29, 2010. Ruth was born on January 27, 1917 in Savannah, GA and moved to the area in 1939. She received a BA Degree from Mercer University in Macon, GA and a Master’s Degree from Florida State University. Ruth was a school teacher and taught in Venice area schools for 14 years. She also taught at Appalachian State University and was a member of First Baptist Church in Venice. Ruth was a member of the Weavers Guild of Boston, Florida Tropical Weavers Guild, Manasota Weavers Guild, Venice Weavers Guild, and Pinellas Weavers Guild.
