Beatrice Marie Elm, was born in Lewiston, ID on 24 Jan. 1917 to Charles and Anastasia (Daisy) White. In 1924 the Whites moved to Port Angeles and purchased the Olympic Laundry and Cleaners. Bea attended Queen of Angels School and graduated in 1936 from Roosevelt High School. Later that year she married Delmar Baum of Port Angeles. Two children were born of that marriage. Delmar died in 1943 while the family was living in Everett. Bea returned to Port Angeles and worked in the family business until 1957. She then moved to Seattle where she worked at several medical billing businesses. While in Seattle she met Homer Elm a rancher from Hardisty, Alberta, Canada. They were married in 1971 and lived on the farm until their retirement to Duncan, BC. Canada. Upon Homer’s death in 1995 Bea moved to Edmonds, where she lived until her death on 8 Dec. 2017. Bea was an accomplished pianist and played with high school groups, senior choir groups and at the assisted living facilities where she lived in her later adult life. Remarkably, she continued to play up through her 100th year. During WWll she was very active with USO group in Port Angeles and the Olympic Peninsula. She coached the young women on the songs of the era and chaperoned many weekend dances to entertain troops at Fort Warden, Indian Island and Camp Hayden. She also became an accomplished quilter and one of her quilts was featured on the cover of a national quilting magazine. Bea and Homer enjoyed travelling and frequently traveled with their senior group in Duncan, BC. After a family trip to Japan, Bea studied on her own to learn the Japanese language and they hosted at their home in Duncan numerous young summer exchange students from Japan. Upon moving to Edmonds she enjoyed the activities at the Edmonds Senior Center for many years and was not shy about enjoying casino trips. Bea was a preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. She is survived by her son Lynden (and Kay) Baum of Olympia and Neal (and Colleen) Baum of Edmonds along with 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. A Graveside service will be held at a later date.
