Irene Ethel Olason Born Irene Driscoll on March 9, 1922 in Seattle, the first of seven children from Frank and Lena Driscoll who settled in Mutiny Bay on Whidbey Island. She spent her childhood there, graduating from Langley High School in 1940. She moved to Seattle to attend business school starting a career spanning forty years. Over twenty years she managed an entertainment booking agency in Seattle booking acts into the most prestigious restaurants in town. In 1942, she married Bjarni Olason and Clifford was born in 1944. In 1949 Irene divorced Bjarni and married Robert Rinehart who adopted Clifford and together had James, Michael and Theresa and eventually settled into Edmonds in 1962 to raise their family. Robert died in 1976. Irene rekindled her relationship with Bjarni Olason and in 1978 they remarried. She followed Bjarni as his career took him first to Washington, DC then on to Madrid and Frankfort. Irene continued working during this time first for the Red Cross and in support operations at military bases that Bjarni was assigned to. In the nine years overseas they were able to visit Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, all of west central Europe, England and Paris. Upon returning to Washington, DC while planning their return to the Northwest, Bjarni was stricken with cancer and passed away in 1989. Irene returned again to Edmonds to finish out her years. In 2015, Irene moved to Fairwinds Brighton Court assisted living in Lynnwood. She developed a very close bond with the staff and residents there and her dying wish was to come home from the hospital to Fairwinds to be with "my girls", her name for all the wonderful wellness staff there. Irene was preceded in death by her brothers Frank and Edward and sisters Evelyn and Loretta, her son Clifford, and his daughter Melissa. Irene is survived by her sister Gertrude (Jim), brother Charles (Marcia), her children James (Janice), Michael (James), Theresa (Daniel), grandchildren Steven (Lori), Daniel (Casey) and Jesse and great grandchildren Ayden, Phoenix, and baby Lucy Grace! Irene loved quilting, sewing, New York Times crossword puzzles, reading, sailing, clam digging, camping, holidays with her children, and being on the beach.
