Dixie Jean Gibson Smith, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and granddaughters on Thursday, March 30, 2023. She was born in Ruleville, Mississippi to the late Wayman and Lillie Mae Ray Gibson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hartwell Smith; son, Michael Smith and son-in-law Donnie Miller. She is survived by her brother, Wayman Gibson Jr. (Pat); niece Renee Gibson LaMastus (Mack) all of Cleveland, Mississippi. She was married on August 10, 1952 and they spent most of their life raising four children: Michael Smith, Sherry (Donnie) Miller, Kenneth Smith and Tracy Smith. In later years she adored her grandchildren: Erin (Will) Cornett, Sarah (Tim) Dougherty, Joshua Smith, Adam Smith, Ryan Smith, Logan Smith and Lucas Smith. In the past 8 years, she cherished with all her heart, her great grandchildren: Liam Cornett, Miller Dougherty, Henry "Hank" Dougherty and Avery Cornett. She was born and raised in Ruleville, Mississippi, where she was a cheerleader and Queen of Ruleville High School. She was a true "Southern Belle" that still held on to her southern accent. We called her "Grandma Dixie" and "MeMaw" and she was the faithful matriarch of our family, that she loved dearly. A special "Thank You" to her sweet caregivers at Bourbon Heights, where she lived her last couple of years. A Celebration of Life will be held at Woodland Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in the Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donate to your favorite charity.
