After living in Biloxi and Gulfport Mississippi and Jacksonville, Florida, Herb moved with his family to Miami, Florida in 1937. Herb served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater and he participated in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima as an officer on an LST. After the war Herb returned to Miami where he married Kathryn Tyler “Kay”. Together they raised 4 children. Herb was a division manager for Schering Plough for over 40 years. After retiring in 1989, he moved to Venice where he lived until his death. Herb was an active member in Kiwanis and he was an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity. Herb was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Zelpha and by his son Herbert III. He is survived by his loving wife Kay and his son Mark, his son Gary and his wife Cindy, his daughter Kathy and his daughter-in-law Mary. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren: Brooke, Stephen, Amy Russell and her husband Aaron and their son Zachary, Adam, and his wife Lindsay and their children Peyton, Sidney and Kyler, Justin and his wife Stephanie and their children Emma and Justin, Benjamin and his wife Priscilla, Danielle, Burt, Blake and Tyler. Herb was dearly loved and admired by all who knew him. No one was a stranger to him. He had a generous heart and he always saw the best in everyone. He will be sorely missed.
