James Rue Spencer, age 85, passed away peacefully, in the presence of family at St Joseph Hospital, in Lexington, Ky on May 29, 2023. He was the son of the late Corbett Spencer and Ann Spencer Purvis. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Loretta Katherine “Kay” Weissinger Spencer in 2008 and two children, James Robert Spencer in 2001, Loretta Ann Spencer Johnson in 2019 and a brother Wayne Spencer in 2005. He is survived by two children Linda Katherine Spencer (Tony Hart) and John Corbett Spencer, a sister Melody Spencer O’Connor and two brothers Charles Corbett Spencer and Douglas Spencer. He is also survived by two grandchildren Melissa (Tommy) Campbell and Melinda Katherine Clemmons, as well as three great-grandchildren, Logan Elizabeth Campbell, Spencer James Campbell and Mariah Katherine Clemmons. Jim was a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School and a graduate from New York University with a Master’s in Business Administration. He was an avid reader and enjoyed researching various topics at the local library. He was also member of the Mensa society of Lexington. After retirement, he enjoyed his daily 5-mile walks and swimming at the YMCA. Jim was a passionate story teller and could always be counted on for good advice as he often knew everything about everything. In his later years, he looked forward to visits from his children, especially his grand and great grandchildren, spending time in the canopy swing and sipping ice-cold Pepsi. Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside funeral service that will be conducted Tuesday June 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM, at the Lexington Cemetery.
