Nancy Jacobsen Olden 9/26/1931 – 8/7/2018. Nancy died peacefully at home in Edmonds, Washington on August 7, and joined her late beloved husband Harold M. Olden who preceded her in death this past December 2, 2017. Nancy was the youngest of three children born to Edwin A. and Emily P. Jacobsen of Seattle. An honor roll student, she graduated Lincoln High School in 1949. Nancy married Ross W. Swift in 1950 and the moved to Edmonds in 1961. In 1962 she became a volunteer teacher at the Little Red School House for special needs young children. She had been a dedicated stay-at-home mother and homemaker until her divorce in 1967, when she joined the work force as a full-time secretary/accountant and often worked part time including teaching night classes in typing at Inglemoor High School. She resided in Edmonds, Washington from 1961 until her death. She married Harold M. Olden, a very talented Boeing engineer, in 1978. After she was able to retire from Shoreline Community College in the early 1980s, she volunteered at the UW Children’s Hospital where she could usually be found sitting on the floor playing trains, reading, or listening and giving hugs. She is survived by sister Jean McCoy of Texas; children Jon (Kim) Swift, Jan Williams (Ben Salinas) and Ross K. Swift (Chuck Robison); Grandchildren Daniel (Serra) Swift and Jillian Swift; stepchildren Nancy (Jim) Higgins and Kurt (Lois) Olden, but preceded in death by Ryan Olden in 2014; step-grandchildren Katelyn (Mike) Lindstrom, Greg Olden and Laurel Olden. Nancy will be laid to rest at noon on Saturday August 25th at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Edmonds, followed by a memorial at Beck’s Tribute Center in Downtown Edmonds at 2:00. If they so choose, guests are invited to wear something with her favorite color, blue. Charitable donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
